"But I did it scaled..."


As coaches, we hear that saying all of the time and it is usually said with a disappointed tone. Little do our athletes know, their coaches are just grateful that they showed up and they made their health a priority. Hitting that RX is super fun and rewarding, but in the grand scheme of things, it should not be the only motivation. There is nothing more rewarding than watching an athlete relentlessly pursuing a skill or goal, and accomplishing it. Conversely, there is nothing more heart wrenching than watching an athlete lose confidence and stop showing up just because they can't put those two letters next to their name on the white board. Our 'WHY' is so much bigger than our performance in the gym. We workout so we will maintain muscle and balance into our later years. We workout so we are less susceptible to disease. We workout so we can be highly functioning in our day to day physical lives. We workout to maintain our mental health. Set goals, make them a priority; but do not lose sight of the big picture. Showing up week after week takes commitment and drive, and your coaches are proud of you for doing that, RX or not.
