CrossFit Training for Kids

What is Kids Crossfit?

CrossFit methodology is defined as constantly varied functional movement performed at a high intensity. For kids, this holds true with the main priority of programming being FUN! As parents, we know kids have a short attention span for activities that aren’t fun, so CrossFit Kids adds fun (games, competition, challenges) to the program.

Why is CrossFit good for kids?

In CrossFit Kids, we teach them foundational movements so that they can move more effectively and safely. They will learn some weightlifting movements; loaded appropriately to their age group and capacity. However, the focus is on good movement rather than heavy load.

Much like the benefits adults see in CrossFit, kids benefit from the confidence that is built from learning new skills and improving speed and agility. Positive feedback from their coach boosts their self-esteem. Studies have shown that exercise in general results in better academic performance (see this article for more information). CrossFit promotes camaraderie between participants - kids are encouraged to cheer on their peers during workouts, creating friendships and community. CrossFit Kids has great physical benefits - teaching them weightlifting, cardio, and gymnastics movements that can be applied to all other sports! Some workouts are just harder than others and kids will develop key character traits to overcome obstacles in life in a healthy manner while reinforcing overall healthy lifestyle habits.

Is CrossFit safe for kids?

Any sport is only as safe as the coach - especially for kids. An uninformed and inexperienced youth sports coach who over-trains kids and coaches incorrect mechanics is not safe. The same holds true for football, gymnastics, basketball, CrossFit… Coach M from KJ Crossfit has CrossFit certifications L1, L2, and the original in-person CrossFit Kids training, ensuring safe movements for your kids.
